Diarrhea in children home remedies

 Professor Dr. Tahmeena Begum

Paediatrician:

It is very hot and it rains occasionally. Damp weather.
All children, including newborns, can suffer from diarrhea at this time.
Diarrhea is a water or food borne disease.
That is, germs enter the child's body through food or water.
Parents become worried if the child has thin stools two to three times a day, green stools or mucus.
Take the child to the doctor, give medicine. In many cases no medication is needed.
The child gets better within two to three days.
The biggest complication of diarrhea is dehydration. Dehydration makes the child weak.
Restlessness occurs, urination decreases and the child may even faint.
What can be seen to understand that the child is dehydrated
Restlessness, irritability or lethargy.
Eyes go inside.
Feeling thirsty or not being able to eat at all.
Skin loosening.
If there are signs of dehydration, the child should be taken to the hospital.
If not, it is possible to treat the child at home.

What to do at home?
Feed saline and other fluids frequently to prevent dehydration.

Water, rice starch, chira water, canned water, sour curd, whey, fruit juice and salt-molasses syrup should be given.
Many people think that only eating saline will stop the diarrhea. Such an idea is not true.
Saline only replenishes the water and salt that is removed from the body.
Must be given normal food.
If the baby is less than six months old, give him breast milk repeatedly.
Saline must also be given and saline must be fed slowly.
If the baby is more than six months old, do not forget to give the baby all the clean food along with breast milk.
Children can eat khichuri, dal-rice, fish, meat, eggs, vegetables, ripe bananas, fresh fruits and all kinds of clean food.
Boil raw plantains along with other foods and serve them with hot rice.
Raw banana helps reduce the severity of diarrhea. Do not forget to add oil while cooking food. Feed at least six times throughout the day (3-4 hours apart) Small and frequent feedings will make it easier for the baby to digest.
You can give zinc syrup or pills for 15 days.
When should the child be taken to the hospital?

  • If there is too much watery stool
  • If repeated vomiting,
  • If you can't keep eating saline
  • If you cannot eat saline or other foods
  • If there is excessive thirst
  • If you have fever with diarrhea
  • If there is blood in the stool
  • If you have diarrhea for more than 14 days.

Always remember that
diarrhea usually does not require medication to treat it.
It gets better within five to six days.
 Be patient.
Give paracetamol for fever, domperidone for vomiting.
Wash the child's face and hands with boiled water.
 Wash bowls and spoons.
If necessary, bathe the child with boiled water.
Do not feed the child any stale or outside food.
Wash and eat the fruit.
After birth, give baby milk.
Breastfeed, never bottle feed. Germs spread through bottles.
Wash the child's hands before eating.
Also wash your own hands before feeding the baby.
